Seder for the Holocaust survivors of the Passover

Still, we can't imagine how hard the Holocaust survivors live, as if the past and the present were connected to deep sorrow and despair. Thanks to this Passover, we were offered Seder for the survivors, and we served Seder for the survivors living in Jerusalem and in Holon, an hour and a half from here. We were grateful and shared gifts. We also served a delicious dinner meal. We were able to hear the amazing escape story from the ghetto where the Jews were gathered and held captive. We have never had a missionary heart for the Holocaust survivors in our mission to Israel. But when we came here, God wanted to reach out to them and preach the Gospel and to embrace them. The terrible and cruelest genocide of Jews in history has resulted in an enormous number of 6 million Jews, from children to old people, to death in a terrible and ruthless manner. It's always their question that if our God is alive, why was he causing us to suffer this tragedy? This month, Esther passed away at the age of 91. We felt sadness beyond words. Looking back on why he made us meet and serve these people, it seems that it is so sad to the Lord that they do not have anyone to touch

their hearts, be friends, and become children.

여전히 과거와 현재가 깊은 슬픔과 절망으로 연결된 듯한 홀로코스트 생존자들이 얼마나 힘든 삶을 사는지 상상 할 수가 없습니다. 이번 유월절에 감사하게 저에게 생존자들을 위한 만찬을 섬겨주겠냐는 제안을 받고 예루살렘과 이곳에서 1시간 반 떨어진 홀론에 거주하는 생존자들을 위한 만찬을 섬겨주었습니다. 정성스럽게 선물도 나누었구요. 맛있는 만찬 식사도 함께 나누었습니다. 유대인들을 모아두고 포로로 잡아두었던 게토에서 극적으로 살아난 놀라운 간증을 들을 수 있었습니다. 이스라엘 선교를 나오면서 단 한번도 홀로코스트 생존자에 대한 선교적 마음을 품은 적이 없습니다. 그런데 이곳에 와서 하나님은 이들에게 다가가 복음을 전하기 원하시고 그들을 품어주고 싶어 하셨습니다. 끔찍하고 역사상 가장 잔인하게 이루어진 유대인 학살은 600만명이란 엄청난 숫자의 유대인을 아이에서부터 노인까지 처참하고 무자비하게 죽게 하였습니다. 정말 우리의 하나님이 살아 있다면 왜 우리에게 이런 비극을 겪게 하냐고 물어오는 것이 늘 저분들의 질문입니다. 이번달에는 그렇게 만나 정들은 에스더 할머니가 91세의 나이로 홀로 계시다 돌아가셨습니다. 무어라 말로 설명할 수가 없는 슬픔이 느껴졌습니다. 왜 우리에게 이들을 만나 섬기게 하셨을까 돌아보니 이들의 마음을 만져주고 친구 되어주고 자녀 되어 줄 사람이 이들에게 없는 것이 주님에게 너무 안타까우신가 봅니다.
